The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Aug. 3 to Aug. 9, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
August 3
- Deputies responded to the 200 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a theft. The caller stated a female entered the store took 2 bags of groceries without paying and walked out the front door. The deputies located the suspect and conducted an investigation. The suspect admitted to not paying and said she was hungry so she took the groceries. Chelsea Headrick, 36, of San Clemente was arrested on suspicion of burglary and booked at Avalon Station.
August 4
- Deputies responded to Pebbly Beach Road for a disturbance call involving juveniles. The caller stated several juvies were drinking behind the laundry. The deputies contacted the youngsters and determined there was no alcohol at the site.
August 5
- Deputies responded to the Catholic Church to assist a sergeant who was dealing with 2 drunk men. The men were yelling at the sergeant telling him he could not talk to them and they paid his salary. The men’s speech was slurred and loud. The men were extremely intoxicated and detained by assisting deputies. Suspect Marlon Lopez, 25, of Redwood City and Jose Morales, 27, of San Mateo were arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and booked at Avalon Station.
- Deputies on patrol observed a male adult drinking alcohol on the 100 block of Catalina. They advised the man he was not on the Vegas Strip and issued him a citation.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance on Sumner Avenue involving a man and woman. The caller stated a woman was hit by her boyfriend. Responding deputies conducted an investigation and arrested the boyfriend on suspicion of spousal assault. Jonathan Crotzer, 31, of Reseda, was booked at Avalon Station.
August 6
- Deputies on patrol observed a vehicle being driven and playing extremely loud music. The driver was issued a citation for loud music and no proof of insurance.
- Deputies responded to a traffic collision on Falls Canyon Road. The caller stated a stolen city vehicle had crashed at the location. The deputies, detective and sergeant conducted an investigation and determined a suspect had stolen 2 city vehicles and a privately owned golf cart.
A suspect, Alex Field, 47, of Marina Del Rey, was located at a local hotel and arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto. The stolen vehicles were returned to the owners and the suspect was booked at Avalon Station.
- A deputy patrolling Crescent Avenue saw a man drinking alcohol. The man was detained and issued a citation.
August 8
- Deputies responded to Hamilton Cove regarding a trespassing call. The caller stated a man was trying to enter the location and was possibly drunk.
The deputies contacted the man and determined he was a lost tourist out for his morning walk enjoying the beautiful views from the Catalina hilltops.
They drove the man back to his hotel so he could enjoy the rest of his day.
August 9
- Deputies responded to the 300 block of Whitely Avenue for a disturbance call. They were contacted by a man who stated he was receiving messages from an unknown person requesting money. The unknown person stated he would send photos of the man to his Instagram contacts if he did not send money. The man did not send money and was advised to block the caller.
