The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Aug. 10 to Aug. 16, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
August 10
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Crescent Ave. The caller stated someone was using a power washer and the noise was bothering them. The deputies contacted the man and commended him for his cleanliness and attention to detail. They also advised the man it was after 10 p.m. and he was disturbing others. The man completed his task and put the equipment away.
August 11
- Deputies on patrol observed a man and woman in the Plaza at 1 a.m. It appeared the couple was involved in a domestic dispute. The deputies contacted the couple and discovered they were only play fighting and joking with each other. The man and woman stated they were boyfriend and girlfriend and madly in love. There was no crime at the location.
August 12
- Deputies responded to the 300 block of Sumner Avenue for a family disturbance call. The caller stated his adult son was on the front porch and refusing to leave. The caller also stated his son had stolen from him and damaged his property. The deputies contacted the disturbing party whom they know from years of prior contacts. They advised the man his behavior would not be tolerated and if arrested he would be transported Overtown. The man was cooperative and left the location.
August 13
- Deputies responded to Beacon and Sumner regarding a suspicious person. The informant stated a female in her 30s was crying and talking to herself. The deputies contacted the woman and recognized her from a prior arrest. The deputies spoke to the woman and determined she was able to care for herself and had not committed any crimes. The woman left the location and said she was headed to the church.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated a female at the location was refusing to leave. The deputies arrived and determined it was the same woman they contacted on Beacon and Sumner. They told the woman she was creating problems on the island and numerous businesses did not want her on their property. The woman was advised she would be arrested for trespassing and left the location.
August 15
- Deputies responded to a trespassing call on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated a transient was trespassing and sitting in the doorway to his business. The deputies arrived and once again, it was the same woman from previous calls. The woman was served with a Letter of Agency and advised she would be arrested if she returned to the business.
- Deputies responded to a business disturbance on Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a customer was refusing to pay for his rented golf cart. Deputy Rocky arrived and contacted the customer who gladly paid his bill and left.
- Deputies on foot patrol saw a man riding a bicycle on Front Street. They issued him a warning and advised him he could not ride his bike on Front Street.
A short time later, the man drove by on his bike a 2nd time. The deputies again issued him a warning.
Believe it or not, the man drove his bike on Front Street in front of the deputies for a 3rd time. Obviously, the verbal warnings were not effective and perhaps the man was not an auditory learner.
They issued the man a citation and he visually understood and apologized.
August 16

They conducted an investigation and arrested Chelsea Headrick, 36, San Clemente, on suspicion burglary. This was the woman’s 2nd arrest on suspicion of burglary in the past 2 weeks. She was booked at Avalon Station and transported Overtown.
