The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of April 27 to May 3, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
April 27
- Deputies responded to a disturbance on the 200 block of Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated juveniles were throwing water balloons at her windows and running away. The deputies checked the area but were able to locate the youngsters.
- Detective Meyers was patrolling on Pebbly Beach Road looking for an alleged domestic violence suspect. He located the suspect, interviewed him, and arrested Suspect Jesus Perez, 48, Avalon on suspicion of domestic violence allegedly perpetrated on April 21, 2023. The suspect was booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
April 28
- Deputies responded to the Airport for a citizen’s assist call. The caller stated hikers were requesting assistance because there were too many buffalo, and they could not hike around them. The kind deputy picked up the hikers and drove them to Little Harbor Campground. The hikers told the deputy it was too foggy and they did not know how to pass the buffalo. The deputy reminded them they are bison.
April 29
- Deputies responded to the Trans Catalina Trail in an attempt to locate a woman suffering from a head wound. The deputies located the injured woman and transported her to the airport where she was airlifted to Harbor UCLA hospital.
- A deputy on patrol heard loud music coming from a home on Sumner Avenue. Due to it being midnight and a residential area, the deputy contacted the resident. He reminded her of Avalon’s noise ordinance and the importance of respecting your neighbors. The woman was cooperative, understanding and turned her music off.
April 30
- Deputies on foot patrol observed a man sleeping on a bench on Crescent Avenue. Due to it being 2am and very cold, the deputies attempted to talk with the man and check on him. The man was unable to talk coherently and reeked of alcohol. The man did not have anyone to care for him and did not know where he was staying. Jesus Diaz, 30, of Los Angeles, arrested and booked on suspicion of being drunk in public.
- Deputies responded to a family disturbance call on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated her husband was drunk and arguing with everyone in the home. The deputies arrived and discovered the disturbing party was fed up and decided to stay at a local hotel rather than his vacation rental.
May 2
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated a man was arguing in front of a bar. The deputies responded and the mouthy man had disappeared into the night.
