Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Oct. 2 to Oct. 8, 2019. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
October 2
• Deputies responded to the Avalon School due to three juveniles, 13-year-old and two 14-yearolds smoking marijuana at school. The three juveniles were issued citations. It is illegal to smoke marijuana if you are under 21 years old.
October 3
• Deputies received a call of a business disturbance in the 100 block of Marilla Avenue. A female was in the lobby with numerous personal items that were blocking the entrance of the hotel. No criminal laws were violated.
October 4
• Deputies responded to a minor boat collision in the Isthmus Harbor. A 36-foot vessel backed into a 30-foot vessel. There were no injuries and the damage was minor.
October 5
• Deputies arrested Stephen Foulks from Upland on suspicion of igniting illegal mortar fireworks from his boat in Two Harbors. The illegal fireworks were shot toward the dry brush on the hillside.
• Deputies arrested Paula Herriott from Hermosa Beach on suspicion of battery at the Two Harbors Buccaneer Days event.
October 6
• Deputies responded to a boat in Cherry Cove Harbor regarding a female being assaulted on a boat. Deputies arrested Maurice Loomis from Huntington Beach on suspicion of assaulting the victim.
October 7
• Deputies responded to a call of a female screaming for help near Whittley Avenue and East Whittley Avenue. Deputies checked the area and did not locate anyone screaming or any suspicious activity in the area.
October 8
• Deputies received a call of a stolen golf cart in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. Deputies located the golf cart a short distance away and identified the person who drove the golf cart. The owner of the golf cart did not want to press charges. The golf cart was returned to the owner.
