Editor’s note: The fol-low—ing is the Avalon Sheriff’s Sta-tion significant incidents report for the period of Jan. 13, 2022 to Jan. 19, 2022.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
January 13
Deputies responded to 708 Crescent Ave. to assist Avalon Public Works. The deputies contacted a homeless man who was attempting to set up an encampment behind the radio station. The deputies contacted the man and advised him to gather his belongings. The man complied and left the location allowing Public Works to clean and secure the area.
January 13
Deputies responded to the 400 block of Avalon Canyon Road regarding a suspicious person. The caller stated a male in his twenties was hiding in the bushes and the informant was afraid to walk home. The deputies contacted a juvenile who was playing with his Nerf Gun. The juvenile was told to go home and stop hiding in the bushes.
January 14
Deputies responded to the 300 block of Descanso Avenue regarding a 911 call that hung-up on the dispatcher. Deputies contacted a male and female adult who stated they were only having an argument and called 911 on accident. The deputies investigated and determined no crime had been committed at the location.
January 15
Deputies responded to the 100 block of Catalina Avenue regarding 2 males fighting in the middle of the street. Upon arrival the deputies saw the two males and recognized them from prior contacts on the island. They knew the men were brothers and yelled at them to relax and stop fighting. The men complied and were counseled regarding their behavior.
January 16
Deputies responded to the 300 block of East Whittley Avenue regarding a suspicious odor in the area. The caller stated they believed someone was cooking methamphetamine in the neighborhood. The deputies canvassed the area and were unable to locate any meth labs.

Deputies responded to Wrigley Road regarding a traffic hazard. The caller stated 3 females were pushing a golf cart down the road and creating a traffic hazard. The deputies arrived and the found the disabled golf cart parked on the side of the road and out of traffic lanes.
January 16
Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 200 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a female adult was drunk and falling on the sidewalk. Upon arrival the deputies contacted the drunk female and her boyfriend. They determined the female was intoxicated and her boyfriend who was not drunk would take care of her. The deputies escorted both parties to their hotel where they stayed for the night without incident.
January 16
Deputies responded to a disturbance call at People’s Park. The caller stated numerous juveniles were fighting at the park. The deputies contacted the juveniles who were not fighting and merely playing in the park.
January 17
Deputies and LA County Baywatch responded to Little Harbor regarding a female adult who was attacked by a buffalo. The female suffered injuries and was airlifted to Harbor General Hospital for further treatment.
January 17
Deputies responded to a business disturbance on the 400 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a male adult was refusing to leave the location. The deputies arrived and recognized the male from numerous prior contacts and arrests. The disturbing party was served with a Letter of Agency from the business owner and advised he would be arrested if he entered the property again.
January 18
Deputies received a juvenile disturbance call on the 600 block of Beacon Street. The caller stated her child was refusing to go to school. Prior to the deputies’ arrival, the parent called Avalon Station and cancelled the call for service.
January 19
Deputies responded to an open door at the Casino Theatre. The caller stated the door at the rear of the property was found opened. The deputies checked the location and determined someone had left the elevator door opened. There was no evidence of a crime at the location.
