Last week Island Spa Catalina opened its doors to Avalon residents and visitors with its Second Annual Community Open House and Appreciation Evening.

Held initially in 2014, the Open House is designed to welcome the community and invite everyone to experience the spa with complimentary mini-treatments such as neck and shoulder massages, facials, make up refreshers, and Sun on the Run spray tanning.

Attendees had the opportunity to purchase products that they sampled during their treatments at The Spa Shoppe, where 10 percent of all proceeds ($433) were donated to Avalon School.

Santa Catalina Island Company matched the proceeds, totaling $866 for the school.

“In addition to improved physical health, high school athletics play a positive role in youth development, including improved academic achievement and higher self-esteem,” said Angelica Gonzalez, principal of Avalon School.

“In Avalon, athletics come with a higher price tag due to Island logistics.  We are extremely grateful for our partnership with the Santa Catalina Island Company and for their generous donation to Avalon High School Athletics,” said Gonzalez.

While at the event, attendees had the opportunity to sign up for Avalon Advantage, a free program for Avalon residents that offers 20 percent off treatments 50 minutes or longer. Residents who were not able to attend the evening can still visit Island Spa Catalina to sign up; all that’s needed is a resident card or license with current address.  “We had around 200 individuals attend the evening, and were very pleased that so many members of the community attended the evening,” said Lubos Pech, senior vice president of Hospitality, Santa Catalina Island Company.  “We look forward to welcoming everyone to future events and back to Island Spa Catalina.”
