Tax initiative would finance construction of a new hospital
Supporters of Measure H, a November ballot initiative to impose a special tax on passengers to Avalon and on boats mooring in the harbor, are scheduled to hold a virtual town hall meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8.
Councilmember Michael Ponce will be among the participants.
Supporters argue the funds are needed to preserve local healthcare.
As previously reported, if approved, the money would go to funding the state-mandated replacement of the Catalina Island Medical Center. California is requiring all hospital buildings to meet seismic standards by 2030. Hospitals could use certification and be required to close if they fail to comply.
