Avalon resident Brian Larson was the top local finisher in the Catalina Island Marathon on Saturday. The 37-year-old finished 13th overall and fourth in his age division, with a time of 3 hours, 43 minutes and 34 seconds.
Jessica Romero, 33, of Avalon was the 115th overall finisher and 29th female with a time of 5:03:25 and was 6th in her age division. Avalon residents, Simon Leppicello and Katey Gould finished 181st and 182nd overall, respectively. Leppicello, 27, finished in 5:30:30 and Gould, 28, was right behind him at 5:30:31. Gould was 7th in her age division. Christian Silva, of Avalon, finished with a time of 6:08:16. Silva, 31, was 15th in his age division.
Of the 400 runners who started the marathon event, 379 finished the course.
In the 10K event, Avalon resident Christian Martinez was the top local finisher, taking 7th overall and 3rd in his age division, with a time of 48 minutes, 39 seconds. Mayra Rodriguez, 29, was the next Avalon finisher with a time of 56:33. Rodriguez took 33rd overall and 8th among females. She was 2nd in her age division.
Jose Alfredo Zavala, 25, of Avalon, was 35th overall and 6th in his age division, with a time of 56:58. Avalon resident Natnael Woodford, 21, took 39th overall with a time of 57:18. Woodford, was 6th in his age division. Max Boyd, 36, was 43rd overall and 4th in his age division. He completed the course in 57:51.
Karla Romero, 29, of Avalon, took 4th in her age division, with a time of 59:55. Romero was the 17th overall female finisher. Salvador Pedroza Tamayo, 38, took 6th in his age division, with a time of 1 hour, 0 minutes and 9 seconds. Avalon resident Elizabeth Gomez, 31, took 8th in her age division with a time of 1:01:00
Avalon residents, Kensley Flynn and Jennifer Munoz, were the 51st and 52nd female finishers, respectively. Flynn, 20, finished with a time of 1:08:06 and Munoz, 28, was right behind her at 1:08:07. Hennessy Salazar and Cruz Martinez, also of Avalon also crossed the finish in near proximity. Salazar, 20, finished in 1:08:37 and was the 6th place runner in her age division. Martinez, 32, finished in 1:08:51 and was 16th in his age division.
Three Avalon residents crossed in order Chris Gonzalez, 18, finished in 1:12:02 and was fourth in his age division. Araceli Tamayo, 45, finished in 1:12:09 and took 4th in her division and Aaron Kreisberg, 35, finished in 1:12:15 and took 14th in his age division. Avalon resident Mariah Kennebrew, 33, completed the course in 1:13: 35 and was 18th in her age division.
Maria Leyva, 26, took 24th in her age division, with a time of 1:13:36. Marisa Morones, 29, of Avalon was 25th in her age division with a time of 1:14:11. Avalon resident Selina Morones was close behind with a time of 1:14:48. She took 26th in her age division.
Gerry Bravo, of Avalon, completed the race in 1:17:01. The 38-year-old was 15th in his age division. Avalon resident Eduardo Olvera, 31, was 14th in his age division, completing the course in 1:18:04.
Alondra Ledezma, 38, of Avalon finished in 1:18:28 and took 13th in her age division. Devin Hart, also of Avalon, was close behind with a time of 1:18:54. The 41-year-old took 9th in her age division. Lynsey Golding, 34, of Avalon finished with a time of 1:22:47 and took 23rd in her age division.
Avalon resident Jewels Dal Porto, 40, finished in a time of 1:22:58 and took 11th in her age division. Christy Alegria was the next Avalon finisher with a time of 1:23:03, taking 12th in her age division. Nancy Chavoya, 37, was the next Avalon finisher with a time of 1:23:31, which placed her 17th in her age division.
Aimee Casillas, 36, was the next Avalon finisher with a time of 1:24:26, placing her 19th in her age division. Avalon resident Betty Cruz, 36, was close behind with a time of 1:25:50. Amanda Pobul, 40, was the next Avalon finisher with a time of 1:29:27, placing her 13th among her age division.
Maria Dominguez, 45, of Avalon finished with a time of 1:30:10 and took 8th in her age division. Of the 390 runners who started the 10K, 386 finished the course.
Avalon resident Daniel Silva Rios, 23, was the top finisher in the 5K run, completing the course in a time of 24 minutes. Esmeralda Romero, 22, of Avalon was the 12th female finisher and 1st in her age division, with a time of 32:48. Avalon resident Leonardo Romero, 19, was the 20th male finisher and 3rd in his age division, with a time of 35:11. A large contingency of Avalon runners/walkers took to the 5K course and represented the community well.
Rosandra Hernandez, 36, was the 20th female finisher and 5th in her age division, with a time of 35:56. Avalon resident Ashley Plascencia, 21, took 3rd in her age division with a time of 37:59. Natalie Romero, 27, of Avalon was the 46th female and 10th in her age division with a time of 41:42.
Other Avalon runners included Celeste Meza, 31, 11th in her division at 42:19; Jorge Contreras, 31, 6th in his age division, at 45:01; and Lillian Kim, 27, 14th in her division at 46:02. Three Avalon residents crossed the finish in quick succession. Ryan Keeline, 13, finished in 53:16, taking 9th in his age division, tied with Saylor Keeline, 11, 10th in her division, also at 53:16. Ryan Keeline, 52, was close behind at 53:22 and took 3rd in his age division. Stephen Weber rounded out the Avalon runners who completed the 5K course. In total, 200 runners started the 5K and all crossed the finish line.
