Two Avalon residents put up solid times in the Catalina Marathon
Patrick Fernandez of La Verne, California was the top finisher in the Catalina Island Marathon on Saturday. Fernandez, 34, finished the course in two hours, 48 minutes and 5 seconds. Will Kellar, 30, of Santa Barbara took second in 3:06:03, while Anthony Chan, 31, of La Jolla was third with a time of 3:10:03.
Chris Fee, 33, of Highland Park, NJ took fourth overall with a time of 3:32:21. Andrea Ramirez, 41, of Diamond Bar, CA was 11th overall and the top female finisher. She was followed by Margot Bellon, 22, of San Mateo, California with a time of 4:16:54 in 15th overall. Kelly Motyka, 47, of Long Beach was the third female finisher and 22nd overall with a time of 4:23:37.
Locally, Stephen Weber was the top Avalon finisher with a 14th place overall finish. Weber, 30, finished the course in 4:16:49. Another local had a very strong showing. Avalon resident Frances Finley, 39, took 26th overall and was the fifth female and first in her division with a time of 4:28:47.
Sixth place overall finisher Vincent Rossmeier travelled from New Orleans, to run the Catalina Marathon. The 40-year-old ran the course in 3:44:40. The fourth place female finisher was Andi Palmatier, 40, of Sierra Madre, CA with a time of 4:27:41.
Notable
Chris Spenker, 82, of Long Beach finished the course in 7:47:23 and two men over age 75 also ran the race. Peter Krasa, 77, of Pebble Beach, CA ran the course in 5:52:25, while Bill Zappen, 75, of Arcadia, CA finished in 6:51:23. Two women in their 70s also finished the race. Barbara Ashe, 73, of Lotus, CA finished the race in 6:34:40 and Carol Mortier, 73, of Venice, CA ran the course in 7:25:18.
In the 10K event, Ethan Lish, 25, of Apple Valley, California was the overall finisher with a time of 42 minutes, one second. Christopher Yarranton, 31, of Oceanside, California was second overall in 42:46. Brian Orgain, 34, of Santa Monica was fourth in 44:13 and Avalon resident Efrain Moreno, 44, took fourth overall with a time of 46:39.
Edgar Alvarez, 26, of Avalon took 14th overall with a time of 51:47. Bethany Sobesto, 40, of Pasadena was the top female finisher with a time of 48:54. Lindsay Colliton, 31, of San Diego took second among women with a time of 51:32 and was 13th overall. Annie Przybyl, 42, of Denver, CO was 17th overall and the third female finisher with a time of 52:07.
Cressita Bowman, 38, of Avalon was the 54th overall finisher with a time of 1:03:40, followed by Avalon resident, Lauren DennHardt, 32, who was 70th overall with a time of 1:06:34. For complete results visit runcatalina.com.
