Since it was Senior Night and the Lancers needed a victory to advance in the CIF playoffs playing at home, there was a large crowd on hand for Avalon’s first playoff game against Dunn on a chilly Friday, Nov. 8.
With a team playing like a well-oiled machine, it didn’t take long for the Lancers to get going, pulling off a 74-24 victory.

With a team playing like a well-oiled machine, it didn’t take long for the Lancers to get going, pulling off a 74-24 victory.
Avalon is a young team with a lot of potential and it showed early on. On Avalon’s very first offensive play junior Quarterback Cristian Martinez started the Lancers off with a 60-yard rushing touchdown. Jose Carmen Silva capped off the score when he caught for a two-point conversion score and the scores kept coming. By the end of the first quarter the Lancers were up 33-0.
The scoring by the Lancers offense consisted of Christian Martinez with three rushing touchdowns, one rushing two point conversion and three extra points,
Jose Carmen had two rushing touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving two point conversions, Cesar Ventura had one rushing touchdown and three extra points,
Jerod Long had one rushing touchdown, Leonardo Romero had one rushing touchdown and Jalen Flynn with one rushing touchdown.
The defense held another strong game with 71 tackles, five, sacks, one interception by Jason Cisneros and allowing only three receptions the whole game.
The Lancers victory insured they will play at home against the number one ranked team in eight-man football, Mojave as the playoffs advance to round two on Friday, Nov. 15, 5 p.m. on Joe Machado Field. The win raised their record to 6-3 under veteran coach Earl Schrader.
