Lancers defeat La Quinta in final preseason game, 58-48
The Avalon Boys Varsity basketball team just finished a grueling preseason schedule and ended it in a good way. The Lancers came out on top in their final game before entering league play. Before their final preseason victory, the Lancers faced longtime rival Holy Martyrs. Unfortunately, the Armens were too much for the Lancers, winning by a final score of 70-50. Avalon competed well against a talented Holy Martyrs team and held their own for three quarters. It was in the 4th quarter that the Armens finally pulled away.
Leading the way for Avalon were Sol Vines and Allen Arneson with 18 and 17 points respectively. Vines also grabbed 8 rebounds. This was a loss, but a quality one, in which the Lancers showed again that they can compete against good teams.
On Saturday, Jan. 4 Avalon faced La Quinta High School to close out the preseason. The Lancers played their best game of the season so far, defeating the Aztecs 58-48. Allen Arneson, Daniel Madriz and Tony Ramos were the leaders in this one. Arneson had 20 points and 5 rebounds. Madriz scored 12 points, making five out of five from the free-throw line.
Ramos lead the offense from the point guard position, scoring 10 points and applying intense defensive pressure all over the court. The Lancers now have a week to prepare for league competition. They open up at home this Friday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. Don’t miss out on these exciting games as the Lancers try to defend last year‘s league championship.
