A group of 17 volunteers used kayaks to collect debris from Catalina shore spots that are not accessible by foot. The group paddled into coves and crevices to collect a total of 326 pounds of debris on two different beach areas.
The Catalina Kayak Cleanup lasted about three hours. The event was a collaboration between Bleu World, Wet Spot, and Love Catalina and it provided a little recreation to go with community support, according to Kayla Feairheller, Bleu World Founder and one of the organizers.
“Everyone had such a wonderful time and I think it went off without a hitch,” Feairheller said.
Organizers are hoping to schedule another Kayak cleanup in late summer. For more information, visit bleuworld.org.
