Year-to-date data shows 82.9% increase from 2020
June 2021 saw the visitor county increase by more 201% over June 2020, according to information recently released by Love Catalina Island, also known as the Catalina Island Tourism Authority.
That data doesn’t include cruise ship visitors—there haven’t been any since March 2020.
The year-to-date data put the visitor 2021 visitor counts 82.9% greater than in 2020.
“Cross Channel and Cruise arrivals are down year-to-date compared to 2019 while Private Boat, Private Aircraft and Helicopter arrivals are up,” according to the Love Catalina website.
June numbers
“June’s total in-bound passengers = 96.208, up from last year @ 31,933. June 2021 was above the three, five and ten-year averages. June 2021 trailed June 2019 by 12,057 visitors,” according to the Love Catalina website.
“Passengers arriving by sea, including private boaters, was 91,973 for the month of June, up by 61,587 from 30,384 last year,” according to the Love Catalina website.
“June Cross Channel passenger counts were up year-over-year @ 84,723 vs. 23,736 last year,” according to the website.
“2019 had 76,797 Cross Channel passengers or 7,926 fewer passengers than 2021,” according to the Tourist Authority website.
“Cross Channel Carriers made up 88.06% of total monthly arrivals,” according to the website.
No cruise ships visited Catalina in 2020 or 2021.
“2019 June Cruise passenger counts totaled 22,045,” according to the website.
“All years on record prior to 2020 had 8 ships in June,” according to the website.
“Private Boater passenger counts were up year-over-year by 602 @ 7,250,” according to the website.
People aboard planes (Airport in the Sky) was up @ 2,157 from 936 last year,” according to the Love Catalina website.
“2021 had the highest volume of private aircraft passengers for the month,” according to the Love Catalina website.
“2020 had the lowest volume of private aircraft passengers for the month. The prior lowest count was in 2019 @ 1,044,” according to the website.
“People aboard Charter Helicopters was up year-over-year @ 2,078 vs. 613,” according to the Love Catalina website.
“2021 had the highest volume for the month,” according to the Love Catalina website.
“2020 had the lowest volume for the month. Previous low for month was 1,141 in 2009,” according to the Love Catalina website.
