The first night of the Fall Co-Ed softball season featured two close contests. Game one was between Coyote Joe’s and Catalina Express. Coyote Joe’s came out hot, with Allan Vega opening the game with a home run. Five base hits and a double from Melissa Schafer followed for a total of five runs.
Catalina Express answered with a solo home run from Gilbert Hernandez. A walk turned into the second run of the inning. Defense ruled inning two. Coyote Joe’s added two more off the home run from Allan Vega in the third.
No further runs were scored until the fifth inning when Catalina Express tied it up with five runs scored. Leo Aguilar and Luis Lazaro hit back to back doubles. With two on, Billy Boyd collected three RBIs off his home run.
In the top of the seventh, Coyote Joe’s broke the tie with two runs scored off three base hits. In the bottom of the seventh, Gabriel Alvarado started things off for Catalina Express with a solo home run. With two runners on, Luis Lazaro hit a walk-off three RBI home run to end the game 11-9.
For Coyote Joe’s Allan Vega, Hugh Bevins and Aimee Casillas were three for three. Robert Reyes and Juan De La Cruz had two hits. Marco Gallegos, Francisco Bravo, Caitlin Lopez and Melissa Schafer contributed one hit each.
For Catalina Express Leo Aguilar and Diana Rios were three for three. Gabriel Alvarado and Luis Lazaro had two hits. Gilbert Hernandez, Frankie Rojo, Billy Boyd and Margery Williams collected one hit.
Game two between Bravo’s Landscaping and Straight Up Builders also came down to the last inning. Bravo’s Landscaping Justin Hernandez opened with a double and later scored. Straight up Builders answered with two base hits and a double from Nestor Cubillas to score two.
Bravo’s Landscaping tied it up in the second when Joey Talsky hit a double and later scored. Bravo’s Landscaping edged ahead in the third with a run off back-to-back doubles from Justin Hernandez and Selina Morones.
Straight Up Builders took the lead in the bottom of the inning when two runs came home off an error, a double from Nestor Cubillas and a sacrifice fly. The lead changed back to Bravo’s Landscaping in the top of the fourth. Tyler Engel opened the inning with a solo home run. A double from Joey Talsky, an error and a home run from Ryan Adkins brought home three more.
Straight Up Builders answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Straight Up Builders tied it up in the bottom of the fifth with two runs off two base hits and a double from Taryn Minuto. Tied in the bottom of the sixth, Straight Up Builders took advantage of three errors to score two before the inning ending double play. With their last change, Bravo’s Landscaping couldn’t generate much offense, and the game ended with the score Bravo’s Landscaping 7, Straight Up Builders 9.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Justin Hernandez, Joe Hernandez and Joey Talsky were three for three. Ryan Adkins had two hits. Tyler Engel and Selina Morones collected one hit.
For Straight Up Builders Nestor Cubillas was three for three. Chuy Sillas, Alex Herrera, Patton Polk, Jesus Gutierrez and Chela Hernandez collected two hits. Taryn Minuto and Rachel McCormick had one hit.
