Catalina Island Medical Center has again been recognized as one of Telemedicine’s top performers in the state of California according to the California Telehealth Network.   Site champion awards are given to healthcare members that conduct the most telemedicine consults.

The mission of the California Telehealth Network is to promote advanced information technologies and services to improve access to high quality healthcare for rural Californians in geographically isolated locations.

The goal of documenting the level of telemedicine activity taking place on the network is to continue to advocate for the necessary grant and investment funding to continue to support our participating sites.

Catherine Rhyne, CIMC’S Chief Patient Care Services said, “It’s an important service for island patients to be virtually connected to the mainland medical specialists who treat them.” CTN puts the self-reported statistics into a confidential database which it only shares with state agencies directly related to funding and telemedicine advocacy.  Currently CIMC offers consultations in endocrinology, pain management and telepsychiatry.
