The Catalina Island Museum has kicked off its largest fundraising effort of the year, the 2014 Annual Campaign. All funds raised throughout the campaign directly support the museum’s day-to-day operations.
Recent months have witnessed the museum’s future home – the Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building – rapidly rising in the center of Avalon. When the building opens in mid-2015, it will exhibit a far more comprehensive view of Catalina Island’s remarkable history. The Special Exhibitions Gallery will host traveling art exhibitions from around the world. The building will also include a state-of-the-art theater for lectures and videos; a gallery for its permanent collection of plein air painting; a retail shop that will add to the town’s busy street life; and—on the museum’s vast second floor—a 100-seat amphitheater that has been specially designed for films and concerts. Adjacent to the amphitheater are open-air plazas suitable not only for catered events but for performances of dance, theater and music. Information for all of the opening events will be announced during the coming months.
To highlight the importance of the inaugural year of its new building, the Catalina Island Museum’s Board of Trustees recently announced that it will match all gifts to the Annual Campaign up to a total of $30,000. If you act now, your tax-deductible contribution to the museum will be doubled.
“Please join us in our new building; and when you do, I hope you will take immense satisfaction in knowing that all of your past contributions to the museum were of immeasurable importance in helping us reach our goals,” said Michael De Marsche, the museum’s Executive Director. “But your gift to this year’s Annual Campaign can make it the most successful campaign in our history.”
The real work of 2015 is now underway. Gallery installations are being designed, special exhibitions are being planned, and visiting lecturers and performers are being lined up. Your support will help make the inaugural year of the new Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building the most memorable in Catalina Island Museum history.
“Thank you in advance for your contribution to this year’s Annual Campaign, and I very much look forward to welcoming you soon to our new home: the Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building,” said De Marsche.
The Catalina Island Museum needs your support to continue its efforts to educate and inspire Island residents, its youth, and its visitors. It is not the size of the donation, but the participation in the campaign that is so important. With the museum’s Board of Trustees matching all donations up to $30,000, EVERY gift makes a difference.
Donations can be made in person by visiting the museum daily between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., by phone at 310-510-2414, or online by visiting the ‘Support the Museum’ page at www.CatalinaMuseum.org.
