The city of Avalon’s 4th of July Celebration will be memorable, informative and educational, as well as celebrate an Avalon Icon. This year’s theme is a Green Island in a Blue Ocean: moving Catalina into a Sustainable Future. We are hoping to bring awareness to how to sustain our landfill and become more conscious of the products we use and how it effects our environment.
The 4th of July celebration starts with a concert on Wrigley stage by the Spirit of Troy, USC Marching band on July 3 at 3 p.m. Jake Vogel and the USC Band will play Patriotic Tunes, Latest Hits, and favorite Fight On! Come Raise your victory sign and enjoy this free concert.
With this year’s theme, we are looking for the golf carts and homes to utilize sustainable products to decorate. The home decoration contest will be judged at 10 a.m. and winners announced at 12:30 p.m. at Wrigley stage. The golf cart parade line up will be start at the casino at noon. Golf Carts will be judged during lineup. You must be there between 12 to 12:30 p.m. to be judged. Winners will be announced as you cross the stage during the Parade.
The Parade starts at 1 p.m. The Grand Marshal will be Avalon Icon Tony Zieller. Tony as a citizen volunteer to every morning to sweep our streets, parks, and helps at the day care centers. Not looking for recognition, but is recognized constantly by our community and visitors who see him every morning for over 30 years. Tony is the best represents how one person can make a big difference, not just in how our community looks, but how we can make someone feel good with just our presence.
Bands will be playing throughout the day to continue the celebration starting at 3 p.m.: Undercover 3-5 p.m., Proyecto 5-7 p.m., The Islenos 7-9 p.m. With the fireworks show starting at 9 p.m. Then The Islenos will be back at 9:30 to rock the night away.
