Catalina Island residents organized their own demonstration as a show of support for the nationwide protests that followed the killing of George Floyd by since-fired Minneapolis Police Department officers. According to social media posts, the Avalon event at Wrigley Stage, was a mostly peaceful event, but gave some residents a chance to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
“It was a very well done event planned by the young adults of our community who have gone on to higher education throughout the U.S. and came back to their home town and made a statement. I’m very proud of them and our community,” said Avalon City Councilman Michael Ponce.
