Lancers lose game, but reach playoffs

Avalon High celebrated Homecoming on Saturday, complete with a homecoming ceremony to crown this year’s Homecoming Court. Decorated golf carts and costumes highlighted the event, followed by a football game, the Lancer’s final regular season game of the year.

Unfortunately for the Lancers, the game ended with a 54-14 loss to Faith Baptist. But Avalon received a berth in the playoffs to continue their season for at least one more game.

Lancers open playoffs at home

The Avalon High football team lost its final game of the regular season, but the Lancers received a playoff spot in the CIF-SS Division 2, eight-man bracket.

Avalon will host United Christian Academy of Rancho Cucamonga at 4:30 p.m. today at Machado Field. The Eagles got into the playoffs with a 1-7 overall record, while the Lancers finished at 3-5. The Lancers still hold the No. 9 ranking in the MaxPreps CIF-SS eight-man rankings.

The two schools only had two opponents in common this season. Both suffered lopsided losses to the California School for the Deaf. But while the Lancers were able to score 26 points in their loss, the Eagles could muster only eight in their effort against CSDR. Meanwhile, the United Christian lost to Fresno Christian, 45-12 and the Lancers defeated Fresno Christian, 34-16.
