AGVB Reflects on Successful Season

Lancer girls brought home league title

Courtesy photo The Avalon High girls volleyball team captured the Academy League Championship this season, going 7-1 in league play and 23-12 overall.

I’d like to congratulate our team on an outstanding season, capped off with a league title! Our success was built on two key pillars: solid defense and tough serving.

Standout Performances

Selena Fernandez was exceptional on defense and passing, while Aubree Figueroa led our offense with smart setting and high volleyball IQ. Giselle Carrillo was our kill leader, delivering crucial points throughout the season.

Turning Point

Our team started to click during the Avalon volleyball tournament, where we won 16 consecutive sets after dropping the first one. This momentum carried us through the rest of the season.

Playoff Experience

Although we lacked extensive playoff experience, with only a couple of players having prior postseason experience, our team showed tremendous growth. Unfortunately, we fell short in our first-round game, losing 3-1.

Roster

Our roster consists of 14 talented players: Jastelin Alcala, Alyssa Figueroa, Alina Cruz, Selena Fernandez, Aubree Figueroa, Esmeralda Hernandez, Victoria Lerma, Araceli Leyva, Gisselle Carrillo, Jaidee Jimenez, Oceana Martin, Izaiana Gutierrez, Lillian Mello, Stephanie Rodriguez, and Isabella Ramirez.

Looking Ahead

Despite Wednesday night’s setback, our team should be proud of their league championship and significant improvement. With most of our team returning next year, we’re excited to aim for back-to-back league titles and a deep CIF run.
