Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the period of March 24 to March 30, 2022.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
March 24
Deputies responded to a trespassing call at The Island Plaza. The caller stated a male adult was trespassing and drinking beer at the location. The caller also stated there was a Letter of Agency prohibiting the individual from being at the Plaza. Deputies contacted the man, conducted an investigation and arrested Jesus Rodriguez, 75, of Avalon, on suspicion of trespassing. The suspect was issued a citation.
March 25
• Deputies responded to a medical emergency call at Two Harbors Campground. The caller stated a male had fallen and hit his head. The deputies assisted Baywatch paramedics who transported the injured man to Avalon Hospital.
• Deputies responded to a family disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The deputies contacted a female who stated she was involved in an argument with her boyfriend. The deputies located the boyfriend and asked him what had occurred. While talking to the man they noticed he displayed the symptoms of being intoxicated. The deputies conducted an investigation and arrested Suspect Jonathan Kennedy, 43, of San Diego, on suspicion of being drunk in public. He was transported and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station. There was no evidence of domestic violence between the man and woman.
• Deputies responded to a family disturbance call on the 300 block of Wrigley Terrace Road. The caller stated a male and female were arguing inside one of the rooms. The deputies contacted the couple who were arguing because the female was upset her boyfriend was talking with a female in town.
March 26
• Deputies were contacted at Avalon Sheriff’s Station by a woman who stated her ex-girlfriend closed their joint account and took their money. The deputies began an investigation only to have the reporting party cancel her desire to file a police report.
• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 300 block of Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated a man was on the roof of the location and yelling. The deputies contacted the man and warned him regarding his behavior. The man was cooperative and repelled from the roof.
• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 200 block of Beacon Street. The informant stated a male was banging on hotel room doors and yelling. The deputies checked the location and contacted the disturbing party. The man told deputies he was confused and was knocking on the doors in an attempt to find his room.
• Deputies responded to a purse snatching call on the 500 block of Crescent Avenue. The victim told deputies her purse was missing and someone had stolen it. The deputies investigated and spoke to the victim and her boyfriend. The deputies determined the man and woman had an argument and the woman’s purse magically appeared under the bathroom sink. There was no evidence of a crime at the location.
March 27
• Deputies responded to a loud music call on the 300 block of Clarissa Avenue.
The caller stated there was a loud party taking place at a residence. The deputies contacted a male adult at the location who was cooperative and agreed to lower his music.
• Deputies responded to a disturbance call involving neighbors on the 300 block of Whittley Avenue. The caller stated the neighbor was inside the house and tearing up items. The deputies contacted the disturbing party who told them he was destroying his own property. The man said he was just going through a tough time. There was no crime at the location.
March 28
• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Whittley Avenue to check the welfare of a male adult. The deputies made contact with the man and determined he was doing well.
March 29
• Deputies responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of Eucalyptus Avenue and Tremont Street. The caller stated a van hit a fence and caused damage.
The deputies determined the incident involved property damage only and a report was written.
• Deputies responded to an illegal parking call at the Catholic Church. The caller advised a vehicle was blocking the trash cans. The deputies were able to contact the owner who was very cooperative and moved his vehicle so the trash could be dumped.
• Deputies received a family disturbance call on the 100 block of Metropole Avenue. The call involved a husband and wife arguing. The deputies contacted both parties and determined there was no crime at the location.
March 30
• Deputies responded to Beacon Street and Clarissa Avenue regarding a suspicious person. The caller stated a male adult was walking around in his underwear. The deputies contacted the man and escorted him home.
