Resigning from CIMC Board was not Reynolds’ idea

Dear editor,

On November 29, 2021, my mom Carol Reynolds, called crying telling me that she resigned from her position as Board Chair with the Catalina Island Medical Center and it was not her decision. I was in complete shock that she was no longer a board member. I personally want to thank the four board members who supported my mom that evening and who continue to do so. I am truly grateful.

The first time I saw my mom’s love and passion for CIMC and the foundation when I volunteered for An Evening with Oscar when it was held at the Catalina Island Yacht Club. Over the years, the event grew and moved from the Yacht Club to the Avalon Casino Ballroom. Her passion was contagious, and I grew to love the island community as she did. I continued to volunteer wherever I was needed.

My mom’s heart and soul went into the future of the new hospital that must be completed by 2030. She secured the land with Randy Herrel from the Catalina Island Company and worked tirelessly with volunteers from the community, to pass the ballot measure during the pandemic.  The successful passage of the ballot measure will ensure the community and visitors will have medical care. In August, a special toast was made in her honor at the foundation’s Catalinaville fundraiser for the new hospital.  She dedicated 12 years of service and her dream is to walk through the front doors of the new hospital with Shannon Hill.

I am a very proud daughter!  My mom is one of a kind and her love and passion for what she contributed to CIMC will never be forgotten. She may no longer be able to share her time, talents, and treasures with CIMC, but the friendships she has made are priceless.

When one door closes another one opens….

Cheryl Reynolds
