International Lions Club Board of Directors visit Catalina

The 2021-2022 International Lions Club Board of Directors took a day off from their annual meeting, in Long Beach coming to Catalina Island for a day of community service. Partnering with the Avalon Lions Club and the Catalina Conservancy twelve young Catalina Ironwood and Catalina Cherry trees were planted at Haypress Park for the future enjoyment of Islanders and visitors.

Among the 40 International Lions Board of Directors that visited Catalina Island were members from: Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, USA, Canada and India. Lions Clubs are the largest worldwide community service organization with over one million four hundred thousand members. Lions Club members serve their communities with their talents and time. The Avalon Lions Club was founded in 1941 and has a wonderful history of making Catalina Island a better place to live.

During the resent pandemic the Avalon Lions Club Members provided free masks, started a program to pay for prescriptions for residents who could not afford their medications, helped fund and operate he Avalon Food Bank and continue to provide funds for mainland medical visits. The Avalon Lions Club Members are now working on plans for the 2022 annual 50 mile, 50 kilometer benefit run to be held in January.
