Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Dec. 16 to Dec. 21, 2020.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
December 16
• Deputies received a call in the 100 block of Catalina Avenue regarding graffiti that had been spray painted on a wall. Deputies are reviewing surveillance video of the suspect.
• Deputies received a second call of the same style of graffiti that had been spray painted in the restroom at People’s Park. If you have any information about the suspect or suspects, please contact Captain Hocking at the Avalon Sheriff’s Station. Your identity will remain anonymous.
December 17
•Deputies responded to a family disturbance call at Bird Park. They found the disturbing party at Falls Canyon Road and Avalon Canyon Road. During their investigation, deputies arrested Jesus Meison, 21, of Avalon, for suspicion of possessing cocaine, methamphetamine and being under the influence of narcotics.
December 18
• Deputies responded to the Casino regarding two males verbally harassing a female. Deputies checked the area for the males, but they had left the area prior to the deputies’ arrival.
December 19
• Deputies responded to Vons regarding a male not wearing a mask and using profane language toward employees. Deputies contacted the man who agreed to wear a mask and leave the store.
December 20
• First responders, LA County Fire Department, Avalon City Fire Department, Bay Watch, Search and Rescue Team, and deputies responded to a brush fire just east of Two Harbors. The fire departments were able to extinguish the fire with only 1 to 2 acres burning. The cause of the fire was a bird which got caught in the powerlines. The fire departments did an outstanding job keeping the fire from spreading to a much larger area.
December 21
• Deputies responded to Sol Vista regarding people arguing. Deputies arrived and determined family members had been involved in an argument, but no crimes had been committed and the argument was over.
