Island Company leases shop spaces to local hospital

Catalina Island Company recently announced that two spaces in Shops at the Atwater have been leased to Catalina Island Medical Center for use in optimizing healthcare resources. The new locations in the former Chet’s Hardware and Knuckles Swimwear Boutique spaces will house an all-new physical therapy suite and administrative offices for the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation. The new facilities in the shops will allow the medical center much-needed extra space where staff can concentrate on providing care for future patients and new patient services.

The two organizations were able to reach an expedient agreement in just one month. Working in such a swift manner allows the medical center to be agile in its response to shifting Catalina Island healthcare needs.

“We appreciate the Catalina Island Company’s support of the medical center and our community’s needs,” said Jason Paret, chief executive officer for the medical center. “We were grateful to quickly receive this new space with very favorable terms.”

“We are committed to helping enhance healthcare on Catalina Island and are proud to continue to partner with Catalina Island Medical Center,” said Randy Herrel Sr., president and chief executive officer, Catalina Island Company. “We are committed to improving the health and wellness of our community. Just last month, the Island Company changed its employee group health program, enabling coverage for many services offered at the Medical Center. The change also lowers the overall cost of its employees’ healthcare by alleviating expenses such as boat tickets, mainland transportation, and possibly hotel rooms.”

Catalina Island Company is glad to have yet another opportunity to further serve and prioritize the well-being of the Catalina community. Previously, Catalina Island Company donated a 2.5-acre parcel of land to Catalina Island Medical Center, valued at approximately $4 million, for the development of a new hospital.
