The city of Avalon picked up the Junior Lifeguard program this year as the County of Los Angeles dropped all of their Junior Lifeguard programs for the summer.
The Avalon program has 24 kids (program full) with a combination of returning JG’s to first-timers. Masks and social distancing are required on the beach and masks naturally can be removed when they are swimming or running.
Community Services Director Dan Huncke said it is a great group of local kids and they are going through fitness conditioning, water safety, aquatic awareness, first aid and developing their swimming skills.
