Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Jan. 16 to Jan. 22, 2019.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
January 16
• Deputies and the fire departments responded to the 200 block of Clarissa Avenue regarding a person not breathing. A 93-year-old male died at the residence.
January 17
• Deputies arrested Daniel Pimental of Baldwin Park, on the basis of a $10,000 warrant on suspicion of possession of narcotics. The arrest occurred in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.
• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Tremont Street regarding a hit and run traffic collision. There were no injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
January 18
• Deputies responded to Avalon School regarding a vandalism call. Several students vandalized $1,000 worth of books by covering them with eggs. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
• An Avalon resident called deputies because she found a BB gun and an illegal butterfly knife at the end of Bird Park Road in a dirt field.
January 19
• Deputies arrested Gilmer Ramirez-Guerrero of Los Angeles on suspicion of public intoxication near Beacon Street and Metropole Avenue after he was urinating on a tree.
January 20
• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Descanso Avenue regarding a person acting suspiciously. Deputies contacted the person and determined no crimes occurred.
January 21
• Deputies responded to the 200 block of Beacon Street regarding an irate male. Deputies contacted the male, who was upset over the lack of hotel rooms at a specific hotel. No crimes had been violated.
January 22
• The City of Avalon Code Enforcement, with the assistance of Sheriff’s Deputies, stored six abandoned vehicles in Avalon.
