Pirates and swashbucklers of all types rolled into Two Harbors this past week as more than 2,000 festival goers gathered for the 29th Annual Buccaneer Days.

According to Leslie Boutillier, Two Harbors Catering Manager for the event, Buccaneer Days has become a tradition for the first weekend in October. She said the event was well attended with 2,200 guests over the three and one-half festival.

The festival sports a variety of bands and music over multiple stages, while the “buccaneers come with many types of pirate garb for extensive costume contests.”

Capt. John Hocking of the L.A. Sheriff’s Station in Avalon said they brought over seven extra deputies for the weekend to handle the large crowds.

“We were mostly worried about festival goers trying to drive their boats back to Avalon having had too much alcohol,” said Hocking. He said it is against the law to drive a boat or an auto with a blood alcohol level greater than .08 percent.

Despite the large crowds, there were no arrests and no major problems over the festival, said Hocking.
