The Catalina CoEd Softball League Week 2, game one featured Buoys & Gulls and Leave it to Leo Handyman. Buoys & Gulls started it off when Ramon Sanchez hit a double. Two base hits later, two runs had crossed the plate. Leave it to Leo Handyman answered with three base hits, a double from Marco Gallegos and a three RBI home run from Luis Lazaro to have a total of five come home.
Jaime Alaniz hit a triple for Buoys & Gulls in the second inning, but was left at third base. Buoys & Gulls tied it up in the third with three runs off a walk and four base hits. Leave it to Leo Handyman promptly took the lead back in the bottom of the inning. Three base hits, a sacrifice flyball and a double from Marco Gallegos added up to four more runs.
Buoys & Gulls added another run in the fifth. In the sixth inning Buoys & Gulls had one more cross the plate off three base hits. Leave it to Leo Handyman kept pace when they turned an error into a run. The game ended with the score Buoys & Gulls 7, Leave it to Leo Handyman 10.
For Buoys & Gulls Taryn Minuto collected three hits. Ramon Sanchez, Jaime Alaniz and Avery Joharchi contributed two hits. Julian Tejeda, Jose Merino, David Ramirez and Ron Bevins had one hit.
For Leave it to Leo Handyman, Marco Gallegos was three for three. Luis Lazaro and Jose Octavo collected two hits. Leo Aguilar, Daniel Madriz, Stephanie Martinez and Matilda Martinez all contributed one hit.
Game two had Sunset Bar & Grill taking on Straight Up Builders. Sunset Bar & Grill opened hot, with four base hits, an error, and doubles from Rafael Silva and Francisco Bravo to bring home five. Johnny Hernandez hit a solo home run for Straight Up Builders in the bottom of the inning.
Sunset Bar & Grill added four more in the second off a walk, three base hits and doubles from Gabriel Alvarado and Nestor Cubillas. The third inning saw Sunset Bar & Grill bat around the order. Eight base hits, a double from Gabriel Alvarado and a triple from Ryan Adkins added up to eight more crossing the plate.
Straight Up Builders got back on the board in the fifth inning. Two base hits and doubles from Isaac Gonzalez and Julio Chavoya pushed three across the plate. Straight Up Builders kept the momentum in the sixth inning, using a walk, three base hits and a triple from Johnny Hernandez to bring home three more.
Sunset Bar & Grill added an insurance run in the seventh off four base hits. Straight Up Builders got their last at bat, and scored three more off two base hits, an error, a fielder’s choice and a double from Jesus Rodriguez. The game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 10, Sunset Bar & Grill 18.
For Straight Up Builders Johnny Hernandez and Isaac Gonzalez were three for three. Sergio Vallejo and Maddie Hiniker collected two hits. Chuy Sillas, Arthur Kelly, Julio Chavoya, Jesus Rodriguez and Rachel McCormick had one hit.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Caitlin Lopez contributed four hits. Gabriel Alvarado, Ryan Adkins and Jesus Ledesma collected three hits. Nestor Cubillas, Tyler Engel, Rafael Silva, Francisco Bravo and Felipe Gonzalez had two hits, while Missy Schafer and Brittany Randall had one hit.
