The NAC Avalon Ocean Club recently held tryouts for the upcoming fall program. The club focuses on water safety, while teaching open-water swimming and other ocean skills that build the participants’ confidence.
All of our ocean warriors, both new and returning, absolutely crushed the course! Our first-timers showed incredible growth, gaining new independence and confidence in the water, while our returning warriors showed off some seriously fast swim times.
With a record-breaking 47 kids turning out for tryouts, we couldn’t be more proud of how much Ocean Club continues to grow. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our island community.
The program is supported by many individuals and local businesses, including the Lobster Trap, Bucks for Bobby Foundation, Lion’s Club, BJ’s Restaurant Foundation, Sherry Domenie, John Raymont, Meghan Zomorodi, Mark Keppel, Catalina Adventure Tours, Just for the Halibut, Catalina Island Company, Catalina Beverage Co. and Catalina Business Enterprises.
“Their contributions help us continue providing ocean safety education, water skills, and meaningful experiences for Avalon’s youth. We are so grateful,” Instructor Operators, Dempsey Haynosch and Madison Feldman said in a statement.
Adding, “We’re looking forward to an extraordinary couple of weeks with our ocean explorers and another season filled with learning, adventure, teamwork, and plenty of ocean fun!”
