This spring and summer, Avalon Smokehouse is preparing for two major BBQ events that are helping put Catalina on the map in the live-fire cooking world.
Led by local pitmaster Santiago Bryan-Zwick, Avalon Smokehouse has spent the past few years building a name through live-fire cooking, custom catering, and community events both on and off the island.
First up is the Long Beach BBQ Festival taking place May 23–24, where Avalon Smokehouse will join Titus Smokers, Bones BBQ , Josh’s Frontyard BBQ, BYO meat, Smokin_thorpes_ Barbecue for a full weekend of live-fire cooking and barbecue culture. The event will feature a whole steer cook, six whole hogs on the steer cooker, live demonstrations, and some of the top pitmasters from across California and beyond. Following that event, Avalon Smokehouse will help bring the fire back home to Catalina for the Two Harbors Beach BBQ & Art Fest on June 20. The beachside festival will feature over 20 pitmasters, live music, art vendors, knife vendor (Spaceman Knives), specialty food vendors, and all-you-can-eat BBQ sampling in Two Harbors. BBQ Legends from all across the states come to Catalina island to throw down in the one of a kind event.
Big Javs and Titus smokers lead the steer cook on their custom steer cooker. Big Javs created the steer cross after his patented whole hog live fire cooker. Fifth generation Pitmaster La Porka makes his way to lead the whole hog cook on team Avalon Smokehouse. The event continues to grow rapidly and is shaping up to become one of Catalina’s signature summer events. This Year’s Beach BBQ and Art fest is completely stacked.

In addition to festivals and catering, Avalon Smokehouse has officially launched a new mobile pop-up operation in Avalon. The team now operates out of a mobile street cart serving breakfast burritos and smoked BBQ favorites on weekends and cruise ship days from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can currently find Avalon Smokehouse at either The Elbow or outside Leo’s Drugstore.
