The Avalon Beautiful board recently announced its choice for house of the month, tabbing 320 Claressa Avenue for the award.

The house is owned by Denise and Gerald Motter. It was built in 1925 and bought by Kathrin MacDonald, Denise’s grandmother in 1935 for $3,500. Kathrin stayed in the home till she was 97 years old, and then moved due to health issues. Her daughter, Cathreen Dube, Denise’s mother, moved in until she needed to move due to health issues in 2003.

Before Jerry and Denise, moved in, they hired Fine Line Construction, and had Pete Edwards and his team rebuild the home. Pete made some custom windows for the home, that are quite unique.

The outer part of the home is painted in seafoam green and trimmed in white paint. A sign that reads “The Anchorage,” hangs in front of the home. It has been told that this was the name the home was given, and the Motter’s have kept up with the tradition. They believe the house was built as a vacation home, and when the depression hit, the $3,500 was greatly welcomed.

The front of the house is detailed with Wisteria that blooms every winter in a beautiful lavender Mr. Bravo of Bravo’s Landscaping, took care of the Wisteria when Mrs. Dube owned the home and insists in its trimming today. He takes great pride in its care. The second floor adorns three hanging baskets filled with red dipladenias.

If you visit the Motter’s, you might get a glimpse of their two rescue kitties, Ginny and Lily. They are quite fast. Congratulation Motter family! Keep up the great beauty. The Avalon Beautiful home of the month is sponsored by Chet’s Hardware. The Motter’s received a $50 gift certificate.
