After a long winter’s nap, Catalina CoEd Softball returned to the field with two great games. First up was Buoys & Gulls taking on Sunset Bar & Grill.

J.D. Laflin opened the game with a double for Buoys & Gulls but was left stranded at second. In the bottom of the inning Gabriel Alvarado hit a double for Sunset Bar & Grill, but he was also left stranded at second. Buoys & Gulls got on the board in the second inning when Justin Hernandez hit a double and later scored. A second run came home before the double play ended the inning.

Sunset Bar & Grill answered back with an over the chain home run from Jose Octavo. Ryan Akins followed with a double. An error followed two outs, and Maddie Hiniker hit a double to bring home the third run of the inning.

Buoys & Gulls tied it up in the fourth off the solo home run from Juan De La Cruz. Happy Birthday Juan! Sunset Bar & Grill edged ahead in the bottom of the inning with two runs off doubles from Julian Tejeda, Jose Octavo and Ryan Adkins. Buoys & Gulls tied it up in the sixth inning with a two RBI home run from J.D. Laflin.

In the seventh and final inning Buoys & Gulls used four base hits and a triple from Hugh Bevins to bring home four. Sunset Bar & Grill had their last at bat but couldn’t put together any offense. The game ended with the score Sunset Bar & Grill 5, Buoys & Gulls 9.

For Sunset Bar & Grill Jose Octavo, Ryan Adkins and Cesar Lazaro collected two hits. Gabriel Alvarado, Julian Tejeda, Jack Villagomez and Maddie Hiniker had one hit.

For Buoys & Gulls J.D. Laflin and Joey Yakubec were three for three. Justin Hernandez, Missy Schafer and Rachel Mc Cormick had two hits. Juan De La Cruz, Hugh Bevins, Eliu Saul and Ron Bevins collected one hit.

Game two featured Straight Up Builders and Leave It To Leo Handyman. Straight Up Builders got on the board first in the second inning when a walk and an error turned into two runs. Leave It To Leo Handyman answered back with a run.

Robert Reyes hit a double for Leave It To Leo Handyman in the third. Straight Up Builders added three more in the fourth off the two RBI home run from Tyler Engel followed by the double from Brandon Franco, who scored on a base hit. Phil Lopez hit a double for Leave It To Leo Handyman in the bottom of the inning and scored on the two RBI inside-the-park home run from Johnny Hernandez.

In the sixth inning Straight Up Builders brought home three runs on two walks, a double from Tyler Engel, and two base hits. Leave It To Leo Handyman kept pace with three runs off two walks, two base hits and a home run from Robert Reyes.

In the seventh and final inning Straight Up Builders left a runner stranded when the double play ended the inning. In the bottom of the inning Leave It To Leo had two on from two walks and one out when Aimee Casillas came up big with a two RBI double. Straight Up Builders ended the threat with a double play, and the game ended in a tie, 8-8.

For Straight Up Builders Tyler Engel, Brandon Franco and Jesus Gutierrez had two hits. Uriel Castillo, Gilbert Hernandez, Julio Chavoya, LeeAnn Little and Brittany Randall had one hit.

For Leave It To Leo Handyman Robert Reyes was three for three. Johnny Hernandez and Aimee Casillas collected two hits. Phil Lopez, Santiago Martinez, Leo Aguilar and Matilda Martinez contributed one hit.
