50th Annual event honors Swede & Marnice Foote

In memory of Swede & Marnice Foote the 50th Annual Klondyke Klash Golf Tournament was contested at the Catalina Island Golf Course on March 22-23. The tournament consisted of 144 golfers playing as six-man teams. The teams played as threesomes over the weekend, one group playing on Saturday the other on Sunday. The two day scores were then combined for a team total.

At the conclusion of play on Sunday, the team of Captain Francisco Bravo, Blake Phillips, Manny Martinez, Luis Amezcua Sr., Leo Silva and Miguel Bonilla won 1st Place with a score of 16 under par for the 2 days (-9 on Saturday and -7 on Sunday). The team of Anthony Hernandez, Leo Rodriguez, Chiflas Jr., Sal Marron, Danny Hernandez and Leo Perez took 2nd Place honors with a score of 13 under par.

There was a three-way tie for 3rd Place at 11 Under Par between the team #2 Gabe Hernandez, Johnny Leonhardi, Rob Radde, Joe Saldana, Don Diggins, and Tom Borup: team #11 Chuy Pedroza, Oscar Tejeda, Lalo Murillo, Solin Pedroza, Chiflas Sr., and Ruben Hernandez; and team #13 Jorge Leyva, Ryan Saldana, Todd Hallenbeck, Justin Leyva, Jesse Bravo, and Rick Matlock.

The Annual Swede & Marnice Foote Low 3-Man Team Award for shooting the lowest round each day was won by Francisco Bravo, Leo Silva and Miguel Bonilla on Saturday with a 55 (-9) and on Sunday by Fidel Rodriguez, Rafa Talacrito and Damien Lerma scoring a 56 (-8). Closest to the Pin honors went to Alan Casillas on Saturday and Jorge Leyva on Sunday.

The Awards ceremony after Sunday’s play was held at the picnic grounds where all the golfers enjoyed a delicious Mexican food buffet and beverages, prepared by Francisco Bravo and his staff, and Ron Bevins.

And once again special thanks to Marnice Foote’s son Don Diggins and his wife Barb for continuing this Annual golf tradition on Catalina Island, Ron Bevins and Francisco Bravo and to the entire golf course staff.
