Sunset Bar & Grill, Bravo’s victorious

Catalina Co-Ed Softball had another two great games this week. The first game was between Coyote Joe’s and Sunset Bar & Grill. Coyote Joe’s opened the game with a walk, four base hits, a three RBI home run from J.D. Laflin and a solo home run from Nestor Cubillas to bring home five.

Sunset Bar & Grill answered with a walk, three base hits, a three RBI double from Robert Reyes and a two-run home run from Marcus Watts to take the lead with six runs. Sunset Bar & Grill kept the offense going in the second with five runs off a base hit, a two RBI inside-the-park home run from Cesar Aguilar, a double from Gabriel Alvarado, a two-run home run from Justin Hernandez and a solo home run from Robert Reyes.

Coyote Joe’s had four base hits and a double from Nestor Cubillas to score two in the third. Sunset Bar & Grill had an RBI double from Phillip Lopez in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the fourth Coyote Joe’s was threatening with bases loaded and no outs, when a hard line drive to third was caught by Phillip Lopez, who then stepped on third and threw to first before either runner could return to the base. A rare triple play!! Well done Phillip!

In the bottom of the inning Cesar Aguilar hit a double for Sunset Bar & Grill but was left stranded. Coyote Joe’s added two more in the fifth off two base hits and a double from Juan De La Cruz. Sunset Bar & Grill brought home a run, off two base hits and a double from Robert Reyes. Top of the sixth and Coyote Joe’s had their last chance, but couldn’t muster any offense. The game ended with the score Coyote Joe’s 9, Sunset Bar & Grill 12.

For Coyote Joe’s Juan De La Cruz was three for three. Gustavo Gutierrez, J.D. Laflin, Nestor Cubillas, Omar Aguilar and Matilda Martinez collected two hits. Hugh Bevins, Chela Hernandez and Leah Quarnstrom contributed one hit.

For Sunset Bar & Grill Gabriel Alvarado and Robert Reyes were three for three. Justin Hernandez, Cesar Aguilar and Aimee Casillas contributed two hits. Ryan Adkins, Phillip Lopez, Marcus Watts, Julio Chavoya and Olivia Alldrin had one hit.

Game two between Bravo’s Landscaping and Straight Up Builders turned into an exciting game. If you left early, you missed the most exciting part of the game.

Bravo’s Landscaping opened the game by batting around the order. They opened with back to back home runs from Juan Hernandez and Marco Gallegos. A base hit was followed by the two RBI home run from Mario JImenez. Four more base hits and a triple from Juan Hernandez brought home four more, for a total of eight runs.

Straight Up Builders had three hits but couldn’t bring a run home in the bottom of the inning. Bravo’s Landscaping got a run in the second off the inside-the-park home run from Alexandria Tran. Straight Up Builders got on the board in the bottom of the second with two runs off two base hits and a triple from Ben Guzman. Bravo’s Landscaping added another run in the fourth.

Straight Up Builders woke up in the fifth inning and put together three base hits, an error, a double from Chuy Sillas and a two-run home run from Luis Lazaro to score six. We have a game!

In the sixth inning Straight Up Builders took the lead with four runs off a solo home run from Brandon Franco, followed by two base hits and a double from Selina Morones. Top of the seventh and final inning, Bravo’s Landscaping was down by two. Marco Gallegos hit a double, followed by three base hits to score three and take the lead by one.

Straight Up Builders got their last at bat. A one out walk got a runner on base. Another flyball out was followed by a base hit from Briana Morones. With a throwing error, the runner from first tried to take advantage and get all the way home, only to be caught in a pickle. The runner was thrown out, and the game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 12, Bravo’s Landscaping 13. Through four games that leaves Bravo’s Landscaping undefeated.

For Straight Up Builders, Chuy Sillas, Luis Lazaro, Brandon Franco, Paul Daniel Romo, Briana Morones and Selina Morones had two hits. Uriel Castillo, Bart Glass, Ben Guzman and Ramon Sanchez Vela all contributed one hit.

For Bravo’s Landscaping Juan Hernandez, Brayan Aguilar and Alexandria Tran had three hits. Marco Gallegos, Santiago Martinez and Viktor Martinez collected two hits. Mario JImenez, Sergio Vallejo and Tiffany Credle had one hit.
