Sheriff’s Log: Oct. 17 to Oct. 23, 2024

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Oct. 17 to Oct. 23, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

October 18

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Sumner Avenue. The informant stated a man in a purple shirt was harassing people at the location. The deputies contacted the man who began yelling at them and stating he was not going home. The deputies could tell the man was drunk and asked him to go home. The man refused and said he was going to the Sheriff’s Station. A few minutes passed and the Sheriff’s dispatcher advised deputies a man was in the station lobby acting strange. The deputies walked to the lobby, determined the man was drunk and arrested Suspect Luis Tamayo, 40, of Avalon, on suspicion of public intoxication. Transportation to the jail was easy as the man was walked from the station lobby to a jail cell.

October 19

  • A deputy on patrol saw 2 juveniles riding an electric motorcycle. He conducted a traffic stop and cited them both for driving an unregistered motorcycle.

October 20

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call at Five Points. The caller said a group of kids was shooting at people with an Orbee aerosol toy gun. The deputies contacted the group and warned them of the dangers and consequences for their poor decisions. They understood and left the area.

October 21

Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Catalina Avenue. The caller stated a male adult (Mariachi) was drinking at the location and would not leave. The deputies who were very familiar with the man asked him to leave. He poured out his beer, put out his cigarette and left.

October 22

  • Deputies responded to the station lobby for a vicious animal call. The call stated a woman had been bitten by a dog. The woman was treated by paramedics for her bite and code enforcement is investigating the incident.
  • Deputies were contacted at the station for a petty theft report call. The victim stated a Point of Sale device was stolen from Descanso Beach Club Bar. The entire incident was captured on video and the 2 suspects were easily identified. The suspects were contacted, the stolen item was returned and the suspects are no longer allowed on the property.
