The City of Avalon and Love Catalina joined forces to commemorate Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16 with a vibrant celebration. The event honored the country’s struggle for independence, sparked by Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s “Grito de Dolores” in 1810.

The festivities kicked off with a mass at St. Catherine Church, led by Father Dario. He emphasized the importance of community and unity, blessing the day’s celebrations.

Local talent took center stage, with Groupo de Bella Tierra performing traditional folkloric dances and Sinfrentera providing lively Norteno music. Attendees enjoyed food from Sandtrap and the Avalon High School Senior class, while children had fun at the city’s face painting booth.

The City of Avalon and Love Catalina expressed their commitment to expanding the celebration in the coming years, creating an even more memorable event for the community.
