Sheriff’s Log: Sept. 19 to Sept. 25, 2024

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Sept. 19 to Sept. 25, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

September 20

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Sumner Avenue at 12:30 a.m. The caller stated a man was arguing with employees and was being held by security. The deputies arrived and contacted the man described in the call. The man appeared to be intoxicated and was extremely loud and excited. The man alleged he was assaulted by security guards at a local bar. The man was transported to the hospital for evaluation. An assault report was written and the case is under investigation by Detective Meyers.
  • Deputies were contacted by a woman who stated it was 5 a.m. and her sister had not returned home. A missing persons report was written and the deputies began looking for the woman. At 10 a.m. the deputies were contacted by the missing woman at the Cabrillo Mole. She said she was not missing and stayed at a friend’s house because she enjoyed herself a little too much at the bar. The woman was reunited with her sister.
  • A deputy on patrol observed a disturbance on Sumner Avenue. The deputy saw a man yelling at the security guards at a local business. He recognized the man as the same person he had spoken to approximately 11 hours earlier alleging he was assaulted by security guards. The deputy spoke to the man, calmed him down and asked him to stay away from the business and its employees. The man left without incident.

September 21

  • A deputy and sergeant responded to the Cabrillo Mole for a disturbance on an incoming Catalina Express ferry. They were contacted by a man who said while riding the ferry a male adult sat in the seat next to him. When the male adult sat down he began playing footsie with the man who wanted nothing to do with it. We were unable to locate Mr. Footsie and there was no evidence of a crime.
  • Deputies were contacted on Crescent Avenue by a man who stated he had a dispute with a waiter at a local restaurant. The deputies heard the man out and determined no crimes had been committed. The man was reminded everyone was entitled to free speech.

September 23

  • Deputies responded to a possible battery at the Cabrillo Mole. A woman stated she was assaulted by another woman while inside the restroom. The deputies located all of the involved parties, conducted an investigation and a criminal report was written. The case is currently under investigation.

September 24

  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call at Lovers Cove. The caller stated a man was throwing rocks in the street. The deputies located the man whom they have known for many years. They counseled the man regarding his poor and dangerous behavior. The man was remorseful and embarrassed for how he acted. He apologized and rode off on his bicycle.
