In partnership with the Susan G Komen Foundation, Catalina residents and visitors are invited to join in raising awareness and funds for Cancer Cures, by joining in the More Than Pink Walk, Paddle and Mammogram events.
On Saturday September 14, starting at noon, Simultaneous Walk and Paddle Board events will initiate. Walkers will convene just west of Wrigley Stage and Paddlers will Convene at the swim line, adjacently. After some brief announcements, walkers will move toward the Casino, making a loop of the building then returning through town to the Cabrillo Mole, then looping back to the stage. Stand Up Paddle Boarders will follow just off shore in a simultaneous waterborne activation.
All participants are encouraged to dress in supportive attire, carry some pink pompoms or ribbons and engage with those they pass on the street by chanting “We’re here to fight Cancer”. Cancer survivors and fighters generally wear bright pink for such an event. At the end of the walk,

According to Yolanda Van Dyke, a representative of the Komen Foundation, Catalina Island Health (in conjunction with Alinea) will offer mammography in a private setting at a mobile unit that will be stationed on Crescent Avenue close to Bluewater Avalon. For appointments or to determine if you are eligible for a free screening, go to alineamed.com/catalina. A QR code for appointments is also available on posted flyers. Screenings will be offered between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15.
