With three weeks of league play left, the Catalina CoEd Softball League standings got a little tighter. Straight Up Builders took on undefeated Catalina Realtors in the first game of the night. Straight Up Builders was up first and came out swinging. Four base hits, three walks, doubles from Chuy Sillas and Briana Morones along with an error brought home six runs. Catalina Realtors answered with two runs off two base hits and a triple from Robert Reyes.
Straight Up Builders brought home four more runs in the second thanks to the Inside-the-Park Grand Slam home run from Juan Hernandez. Jimmy Felix III hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning for Catalina Realtors. Straight Up Builders got another run in the third.
Catalina Realtors rallied for five runs in the third off three base hits, a double from J.D. Laflin and a Grand Slam home run from Anthony Hernandez. Chuy Sillas hit a triple and scored for Straight Up Builders in the fourth.
Catalina Realtors added another run in the fifth. Straight Up Builders turned a walk and doubles from James Hall and Selina Morones into two runs in the sixth. With their last at bat, Catalina Realtors’ Alex Romero hit a triple and later scored. The game ended with the score Catalina Realtors 10, Straight Up Builders 14.
For Catalina Realtors Robert Reyes and Anthony Hernandez were three for three. J.D. Laflin had two hits. Jimmy Felix III, Alex Romero, Rachel Mc Cormick, Aimee Casillas and Teagan Machado all collected one hit.
For Straight Up Builders Briana Morones collected four hits. Chuy Sillas was three for three. Brandon Franco contributed two hits. With one hit each were Juan Hernandez, Jim Hinkley, Weston Leonhardi, James Hall, Kyle Ostentoski, Brian Ramirez, Selina Morones and Christy Flynn.
Bravo’s Landscaping and Catalina Express gave us an exciting game next. Bravo’s Landscaping was up first and used an error, a base hit, three walks and a triple from Melissa Schaefer to score three. Catalina Express answered back with three runs off three base hits and a two RBI home run from Marco Gallegos.
Catalina Express took the lead in the second with four runs off a double from Jose Octavo and home runs from Marco Gallegos, Luis Lazaro and Leo Aguilar. The lead switched to Bravo’s Landscaping in the third when they scored five runs. Justin Hernandez hit a double and scored on the two RBI inside the park home run from Sebastian Sanchez. With two on Mario Jimenez hit a three run inside the park home run.
Catalina Express came right back and scored four runs off three base hits and a three RBI home run from Luis Lazaro. Neither team scored in the fourth. Bravo’s Landscaping tied it up in the fifth and final inning with three runs off a base hit, doubles from Uriel Castillo and Tyler Engel, and a two RBI home run from Sebastian Sanchez.
Catalina Express got their last at bat, and Jose Octavo started it off with a double. With two out Luis Lazaro played hero with his two RBI walk off home run to win the game. Final score Bravo’s Landscaping 11, Catalina Express 13.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Uriel Castillo was three for three. Sebastian Sanchez, Tyler Engel and Mario Jimenez collected two hits. Tino Rodriguez, Justin Hernandez, Caitlin Lopez and Melissa Schafer contributed one hit.
For Catalina Express Jose Octavo was four for four. Marco Gallegos and Luis Lazaro collected three hits. Leo Aguilar and Margery Williams contributed two hits. Santiago Martinez and Stephanie Martinez had one hit.
Game three had Hamilton Cove Real Estate taking on Coyote Joe’s. Julian Tejeda opened the game with a home run for Hamilton Cove Real Estate. Two base hits and a double from Ryan Hinkley scored two for Coyote Joe’s in the bottom of the inning. Coyote Joe’s added another run in the second. Coyote Joe’s put two more on the board in the third.
The fourth inning was all Coyote Joe’s with an opening triple from Francisco Bravo followed by a base hit and then the two RBI home run over the right field chain by Ryan Hinkley. Coyote Joe’s added five more insurance runs in the fifth, using four base hits, a double from Francisco Bravo and a triple from Nestor Cubillas.
Hamilton Cove Real Estate got back on the board in the sixth and final inning, with doubles from Marisa Morones and Julian Tejeda, and a base hit to score three. The game ended with the score Hamilton Cove Real Estate 4, Coyote Joe’s 13.
For Hamilton Cove Real Estate Julian Tejeda collected two hits. Gabriel Alvarado, Nick Morones, Rigo Pedroza, Marisa Morones and Angelyna Rivera-Cantrell had one hit.
For Coyote Joe’s Nestor Cubillas was four for four. Ryan Hinkley was three for three. Ron Bevins, Gustavo Gutierrez and Francisco Bravo collected two hits. Gilbert Hernandez, Diana Rios and Chela Hernandez contributed one hit.
