Love Catalina reports more visitors

Love Catalina Island CEO/President Jim Luttjohann this week reported to the City Council on the business group’s first quarter of 2024.

Luttjohann reminded everyone that the weather “sucked” during the first quarter.

According to the video he played for the council, Catalina had a total of 163,539 visitors during the first quarter of the year than the first quarter of the previous year.

Love Catalina Island/Tourism Authority reported public relations efforts that reached 11.6 million people, a 71% increase from the fourth quarter of 2023.

Councilmember Michael Ponce said he knew Catalina took third place in the USA Today 10 Best Summer Travel Destination contest. He asked who took first place.

Luttjohann said Mackinac Island. (That’s in Michigan.)

Councilmember Mary Schickling said Channel 5 News was on the Island a couple of weeks ago.

Luttjohann said the Island Company worked with KTLA.

“But we always get so much more whenever any one Island entity partners with KTLA because there’s a lot of affection for the Island in that morning crew,” Luttjohann said.

Mayor Anni Marshall asked who else sees the video that Luttjohann showed them.

He said the video was shared with Love Catalina’s board, goes with Love Catalina’s member newsletter and is archived on Love Catalina’s website.

The council had no further questions or comments.
