The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period May 16 to May 22, 2024.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
May 17
- A deputy on patrol observed an E-Bike fail to stop at the stop sign on Sumner and Tremont. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the bike was issued a citation for the violation.
- A sergeant on patrol observed a Class 3 E-Bike being driven on the street at 3rd and Clarissa. He conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a warning for having an unregistered bike.
- A deputy on patrol observed an off road e-bike being ridden on the street at Sumner and Beacon. He conducted a traffic stop and cited the driver for the violation.
May 18
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 500 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a female adult was being belligerent and refusing to leave. The deputies contacted the disturbing party who left the location without incident and without a whicky whack.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated a man was outside the club arguing with people. The deputies arrived, spoke to the man about his argumentative demeanor and arranged transportation to his hotel. The man chose a cab over a cop car.
May 19
- A sergeant responded to the 600 block of Crescent Avenue for a business disturbance call. The caller stated a woman was arguing with employees and refusing to sign her rental agreement. When the sergeant arrived, the woman had already left the location and did not get to enjoy the beautiful views of Catalina Island through the lens of a golf cart tour.
- Deputies responded to the arches for a disturbance call. The caller stated they could hear music comic from the arches and they could see 1 man. The deputies located the mobile DJ, told him it was 11 p.m. and to respect others who were trying to sleep. They also urged him to purchase a pair of earbuds so he could enjoy his music by himself.
May 20
- A deputy responded to Cat harbor for a vessel in distress. The deputy located a 65 year old man sitting on the rocks. He contacted the man, helped him off the rocks and onto the boat. The man stated his vessel ran out of fuel and he was trying to swim to shore to retrieve fuel. The deputy assisted the man with fueling his vessel and reminded him of the power the ocean and it’s current had.
May 21
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Marilla and Las lomas. The caller stated several kids on e-bikes were headed towards Hogs back. The deputies saw several riders on e-bikes but were unable to catch up to them.
Safety Note
Avalon Station will be strictly enforcing all traffic laws pertaining to e-Bikes. These bikes have become a serious safety risk to riders as well as the citizens of Avalon.
If you ride an e-Bike, please follow all the rules of the road especially, posted stop signs, basic speed laws and helmet laws.
