The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period March 21 to March 27, 2024.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
March 21
- Deputies responded to a stolen vehicle call on Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated her golf cart was stolen during the night, the thief crashed the golf cart and returned after a night of joyriding. A report was taken and the case was investigated by detectives. After some good old fashioned police work, the suspect was identified and the case will be submitted for filing consideration.
March 22
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call at Hamilton Cove. The caller stated a renter was arguing with the property manager and refusing to leave. The renter was advised he was no longer welcome at the property and his stay in beautiful Hamilton Cove was over. The man was issued a refund from the owner and escorted off the property by deputies.
- Deputies responded to a loud music call at the Catholic Church. The deputies arrived and discovered the church was closed and there was no music coming from the location. Easter is on Sunday, maybe the Angels were practicing their singing for the celebration.
March 23
- Deputies responded to a suspicious person at the Casino. The caller stated a man was sitting on the steps and acting strange. The deputies contacted the man whom they recognized from numerous contacts. The man was urged to practice his levitation somewhere else and asked to please stop bothering visitors.
March 24
- Deputies responded to Banning Drive for a theft report call. The victim stated he let someone stay with him and discovered the person stole items from his home. The case is being investigated by detectives. Once again, proof that no good deed goes unpunished. Sad and often times true.
March 26
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Descanso Ave. The caller stated a female was yelling at the location. The deputies contacted a man and woman who live at the location. It was discovered the woman was yelling because she gets excited while watching the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. There was no evidence of any crime.
March 27
- Deputies responded to Machine Gun Park for reports of a person sleeping underneath the picnic table. A man was contacted and provided information on all of the lodging options available on Catalina Island. He was also advised setting up camp in a park was not one of them.
