Coyote Joe’s and Bravo’s Landscaping faced off in the first game of the evening. After turning the double play to end the first, Bravo’s Landscaping went on a roll in the bottom of the inning. Taking advantage of four errors, five base hits, doubles from Tyler Engel, Gilbert Hernandez and Melissa Schaefer, and a two RBI home run from Nick Morones, a total of eleven crossed the plate.
In the bottom of the second, after three walks, Melissa Schaefer hit an inside-the-park Grand Slam to add four more to Bravo’s Landscaping’s total. Top of three and Coyote Joe’s got on the board with a run, off three base hits before another inning ending double play by Bravo’s Landscaping.
Enrique Bravo opened the bottom of the third inning with a double. A base hit, a walk, a double from Justin Hernandez and a triple from Tyler Engel brought home another four runs. Coyote Joe’s scored three runs in the fourth off a walk, an error, three base hits and a double from Hugh Bevins.
Bravo’s Landscaping answered back with two runs off a base hit and doubles from Gilbert Hernandez and Enrique Bravo. Ron Bevins had the defensive highlight with his laid out catch at short stop to deny Jack Villagomez a base hit. Coyote Joe’s put together a rally in the top of the fifth inning. A walk, an error, three base hits, a double from Nestor Cubillas and a three RBI home run from Anthony Hernandez saw six cross the plate.
Marco Gallegos hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning for Bravo’s Landscaping. Coyote Joe’s turned a double play with an unassisted out at first, and the throw to home to catch the runner trying to score. Nice tag Chela Hernandez! Top of the sixth and final inning and Coyote Joe’s got the runner on due to an error. Three quick outs followed, and the game ended with the score Coyote Joe’s 10, Bravo’s Landscaping 22.
For Coyote Joes, Nestor Cubillas, Anthony Hernandez, Hugh Bevins, Santiago Martinez and Fabiola Sillas collected two hits. J.D. Laflin, Francisco Bravo and Ron Bevins contributed one hit.
For Bravo’s Landscaping, Marco Gallegos was four for four. Tyler Engel was three for three. Justin Hernandez also had three hits. Nick Morones, Gilbert Hernandez, Enrique Bravo and Melissa Schaefer contributed two hits. Mario Jimenez, Jack Villagomez and Maria Reyes had one hit.
Game two was between Luau Larry’s and Straight Up Builders. Straight Up Builders got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Chuy Sillas opened with a double. Alex Herrera followed with a triple. A sacrifice fly was followed by back-to-back doubles from Brandon Franco and Juan De La Cruz. Two more base hits and a total of four came home.
Straight Up Builders added to their lead in the bottom of the third. With two on, Juan De La Cruz hit a three RBI home run. In the fourth inning Luau Larry’s turned the double play to keep Straight Up Builders scoreless.
Luau Larry’s got on the board in the fifth inning with the solo home run from Leo Aguilar. In the bottom of the sixth Straight Up Builders used four base hits and an error to score three to extend their lead. In the seventh and final inning, Luau Larry’s Luis Lazaro hit a two RBI bomb over the left field fence. The game ended shortly after with the score Luau Larry’s 3, Straight Up Builders 10.
For Luau Larry’s, Gabriel Alvarado and Leo Aguilar had two hits. Julian Tejeda, James Hall, Luis Lazaro and Ben Guzman contributed one hit.
For Straight Up Builders, Chuy Sillas, Juan De La Cruz and Bart Glass were three for three. Brandon Franco, Uriel Castillo and Briana Morones collected two hits. Alex Herrera, Guastavo Aguilar, Omar Aguilar and Selina Morones collected one hit.

Opening week results
The winter season for Catalina Co-Ed Softball opened January 18. First game was between Bravo’s Landscaping and Straight Up Builders. Despite the double from Nick Morones, Bravo’s Landscaping did not score in the first inning. Straight Up Builders scored two in the bottom of the first inning off an error, a base hit and a double from Selina Morones.
Bravo’s Landscaping tied it up in the second off a base hit, a double from Enrique Bravo and a triple from Caitlin Lopez. Bravo’s Landscaping took the lead in the third inning. Four runs came home off two base hits, a walk, doubles from Marco Gallegos and Maria Reyes, and another triple from Caitlin Lopez.
In the bottom of the inning Bravo’s Landscaping turned the double play to end the inning. Bottom of the fourth inning and Straight Up Builders put two more on the board off an error and a double from Brandon Franco.
In the bottom of the fifth Bravo’s Landscaping got the first out when Selina Morones slipped going past second, and a from the knees throw from Tyler Engel to Melissa Schaefer caught her trying to get back to second. The inning ended with no runs and bases left loaded by Straight Up Builders.
Bravo’s Landscaping added to their lead in the sixth with three crossing the plate off two base hits and triples from Tyler Engel and Melissa Schaefer. Straight Up Builders rallied in the bottom of the sixth. A couple of errors, a walk, five base hits, and doubles from Alex Herrera, Juan De La Cruz, Uriel Castillo and Selina Morones brought home a total of ten and the lead.
In the top of the seventh and final inning, Bravo’s Landscaping’s Marco Gallegos had a two RBI triple with two outs, but was left stranded at third. The game ended with the score Bravo’s Landscaping 11, Straight Up Builders 14.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Tyler Engel was three for three. Marco Gallegos also had three hits. Gilbert Hernandez, Enrique Bravo and Caitlin Lopez had two hits. Nick Morones, Mario Jimenez, Jack Villagomez, Melissa Schaefer and Maria Reyes all contributed one hit.
For Straight Up Builders, Selina Morones collected four hits. Alvin Polk was three for three. Briana Morones also had three hits. Chuy Sillas, Brandon Franco and Uriel Castillo collected two hits. Alex Herrera and Juan De La Cruz contributed one hit.
Game two was another exciting game, this time between Coyote Joe’s and Luau Larry’s. The first inning was 1-2-3 for both teams. Nestor Cubillas opened the second inning for Coyote Joe’s with a triple. Two more base hits followed for two runs.
Luau Larry’s answered with a two RBI inside-the-park home run from Luis Lazaro. A base hit followed by a home run from birthday boy Leo Aquilar added two more runs. Coyote Joe’s stayed closed with a run from J.D. Laflin’s inside-the-park home run in the third. In the bottom of the fourth Julian Tejeda had an inside-the-park home run for Luau Larry’s. Coyote Joe’s took the lead in the top of the fifth with a walk, a base hit, a fielder’s choice, a double from Ron Bevins and a triple from Francisco Bravo to score three.
Luau Larry’s tied it in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double from Leo Aguilar. Top of six, and Nestor Cubillas opened with a solo home run for Coyote Joe’s. A double from Hugh Bevins was followed by two singles for another run before the inning ending double play. Coyote Joe’s turned their own double play to end the sixth inning. Neither team scored in the seventh inning, so the game ended with the score Luau Larry’s 6, Coyote Joe’s 8.
For Luau Larry’s, Luis Lazaro and Leo Aguilar were both two-for-two. Gabriel Alvarado also had two hits. Julian Tejeda, Shawn Hall, James Hall and Tiffany Credel contributed one hit.
For Coyote Joe’s, Nestor Cuibllas and Francisco Bravo were three for three. Hugh Bevins and Ron Bevins both had two hits. J.D. Laflin and Rachel McCormick contributed one hit.
