Former baseball player and teacher, turned author, Gil Lefebvre spent his summers on Catalina, attending baseball camps, but his connection to the island never ended.
Lefebvre’s book, “Catalina Summer,” is a delightfully true and entertaining novel, a riveting experience. It chronicles the many wild adventures during the Lefebvre’s Catalina Baseball Camp of the late 1950’s.
Gil and his wife Marcia have made the most of their retirement. After spending years in professional baseball, law and later public education, and sailing around the world, they now write and publish novels. Gil enjoys using the experience of growing up at Catalina’s Two Harbors as a subject and backdrop to his stories. Marcia’s distinguished academic background assist as editor, creating a unique and successful partnership.
The Lefebvre’s are passionate sailors and enjoy spending time around the island throughout the year on their Catalina 34’ sailboat.
As for old island friends, Gil writes. “A few still live in Avalon and the Isthmus, while others migrated to Southern California and sprinkle themselves just near enough so that on a fine clear day they can look out at the ocean, find Catalina silhouetted against the horizon, and start to remember.”
The couple will be back on the island for the Catalina Arts and Crafts Festival during the weekend of April 7-9 to sign copies of his book during the festival. For more visit his Facebook page at facebook.com/catalinasummer or look for the book on Amazon.
