Sheriff’s Log for May 7 to 13

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of May 7 to May 13. “It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report.  Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Station.

May 8

May 8

•  Adult from Chino was cited for possession of Marijuana in the 200 block of Falls Canyon Road.

May 9

• Brady Maijala, M/23, a resident of Orange, was arrested for drunk in public.

• Jose Macias, M/51, an Avalon resident, was arrested for drunk driving.

•  Three adults from Riverside were cited for drinking in public in the 400 block of Crescent Avenue.

• Two Avalon residents and a man from Hayfork were cited for drinking in public at Casino Point.

May 10

• Lars Johansson, M/31, a resident of Santa Monica, was arrested for drunk driving.

• Anthony Ramos, M/28, a resident of Gilbert, Arizona was arrested for drunk in public.

• Deputies conducted a narcotics interdiction operation at the Cabrillo Mole utilizing a narcotics detection dog to check luggage.  No drugs were recovered.

May 11

• Deputies assisted the Harbor Department and the Fire Department with a boat fire in Avalon Harbor.  The cause of the fire appears to have been accidental.  

May 13

• Deputies assisted an Avalon resident with getting medical attention and treatment at a facility in Los Angeles.

Memorial for Fallen Peace Officers

The Avalon Sheriff’s Station will be holding a 2014 Memorial Ride for fallen peace officers on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at 1 p.m.  

The will be a brief ceremony at the Casino and then all bicycle riders will ride along Crescent Avenue to the Cabrillo Mole and then to the Sheriff’s Station for beverages.  The event has been sponsored by Levent Alkibay of CatBev, Jack Tucey, Randy Herrel of The Island Company, and Mesa Bradley of Brown’s Bikes.  Deputies will introduce their new patrol bikes to the community and are inviting the public to join them for this event.  The use of helmets is encouraged for everyone to help promote safe bicycling.

There were no golf carts thefts reported this week.
