Rest in Peace: Janet Ross Given, 1937-2013

Janet Given was reunited with her husband, Bob Gifen, who left us in 2008, when she passed away from a brief illness, Friday, Jan. 25.

Her Island life began in 1966 with her husband Robert R. Given and their two daughters Kim and Kathleen.

Their third daughter, Pamela, arrived a year later.

During her life on the Island, she was a dental hygienist, Girl Scout leader, owned and operated the Catalina Ice Cream and Donut Shoppe, librarian, and her last venture was owning the Hen House Gift shop in the Island plaza.

We would like to thank Ramon Chavolla, Avalon Paramedics and Fire department, the staff at Catalina Medical Center, and Gilbert and Cherie Hernandez who took such good care of her.

We know that even though we couldn’t make it in time to be with her, everyone who was with her that night, knew her growing up and loved her and for this we are very grateful and honored.

She is survived by her brother, James Ross and his family, Pam, Amy, Daniel, Jason, Hudson, and Truman. Sons-in-law John Moran (predeceased 1954-2012), Jack Rainwater, and grandchildren Samantha, Sydney, Megan, Ryan, and Brandon who were blessed to have such an amazing “Nana.”

Daughters Kim, Kathleen, and Pam along with the entire family will all miss her very much, but find comfort in knowing that she is with dad again.

Our gratitude goes beyond words for all the love and support, cards, hugs, tears, trucks for moving stuff, and the wonderful stories you have all shared with us about our Mom.

Thank you Catalina for being such a big part of our lives for the past 47 years.

We take with us many wonderful friends and memories.
