The Avalon Lions Club once again provided the funds and manpower to scrape, clean and paint the exterior cement play area at Catalina Kid Ventures Preschool.

The Catalina Island Foundation provided over $20,000 last year to replace the worn out surfaces under the play equipment, but the concrete surfaces remained pitted and the paint was peeling.

This year, the Lions redid the concrete and the Catalina Island Foundation helped to fund the renovation of the children’s bathroom areas where the floors, walls and toilets must be replaced.

Along with Catalina Island Foundation, the funding for the bathroom work was assisted by a $2,500 grant from Carlene Malin who lives in Yucca Valley and Montana but comes to Catalina once a year. Malin has designated the preschool for her yearly donation.

“We are so thankful to the Lions, CIF, and benefactors like Carlene for their generous and continued support,” said CKV board member Judy Grear. “With over 50 kids under five, there is always work to be done, so we are delighted to have such help.”
