Trashy view is embarrassing

For a long time I have noticed at Three Palms and Buena Vista Point, that the accumulation of trash at these areas is getting worse.

All along the road and over the sides, and it is never is picked up.

The majority is from locals who party at these two places and throw their beer cans and trash over the hill. Most cans are eventually picked up for recycle money, but the trash stays.

The Santa Catalina Island Company hired a company to pick up the trash, but I have observed that they only change the trash bags and don‘t sweep up the broken glass or pick up trash around the area.

As many people know, my husband and I are on the hill everyday.

We talk to visitors, answer questions and take photos for them.

Many visitors comment on how beautiful the Island is, but then look down and notice the trash and say, ”Don’t they ever clean up around here?”

I feel very embarrassed for our town.

Those two areas are the most stopped at places for photo opportunities and yet are the most neglected.

All the changes and upgrading done to bring more visitors all year round does no good when they think there is no care or respect locally for the Island.

A good clean up job needs to be done and then a periodic check.

I hope this letter will bring more awareness to the situation.
