Thanking Art Good

We are writing to you because we realized that after 25 years of bringing huge revenues to our town and promoting Catalina Island, Art Good, the producer of JazzTrax, has received very little personal recognition from the town of Avalon as a whole.

We would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Art for not only bringing much needed revenue to our Island, but also for bringing a world-renowned event with highly accomplished musicians to Catalina Island.  Good’s Jazz Trax not only brings much needed revenue but joy and entertainment to everyone on the Island, not only to visitors but locals alike.

For 25 years, JazzTrax truly brings the Casino and Avalon alive each October.

Having been raised on the Island, I remember the time when many (if not most) Avalon businesses closed their doors in October and did not reopen until the early part of May.

There are many major factors that significantly altered the face of Avalon to become the year-round destination as we know it today and Good’s annual JazzTrax Festival is definitely one of them.

We do understand that many businesses contribute to the success of JazzTrax with in-kind goods and services. However, these contributions go towards the success of the festival itself. How about the man that has been dedicated to Catalina through thick-and-thin for 25 years?

We believe Good deserves some personal recognition in some way from the town as a whole.

We hope that everyone supports the man we like to refer to as “Mr. October”—Art Good, the man who helped turn our town into a year-round destination, and who is still going strong a quarter-of-a-century later. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you, Art, for your dedication to Catalina for all these years.
